SCHOLARSHIPS

IAAI Foundation Academic Scholarship

The IAAI Foundation Academic Scholarship provides financial assistance to students pursuing formal education at an appropriately accredited college or university in a course of study aligned with the mission of the International Association of Arson Investigators. Eligible programs include, but are not limited to, Fire Science, Forensic Science with an emphasis on fire investigation, Fire or Explosion Investigation, and Fire Protection Engineering. This scholarship is supported by the IAAI Foundation and its benefactor partners.

Each year, at the discretion of the IAAI Foundation Board of Directors, one scholarship of up to $5,000 may be awarded. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, textbooks, and other required course fees.

Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate program with junior or senior standing and must be a current IAAI member or the legal dependent of a current IAAI member. Applicants are required to submit a completed application along with a narrative describing their eligibility, academic and professional goals, financial need, involvement in the fire investigation industry, and any relevant community service experience. Proof of current enrollment and a grade report from the previous semester must also be included.

Scholarship funds are disbursed directly to the recipient’s college or university. Completed applications must be received no later than December 1 and must be submitted using the current IAAI Foundation application process, including all required forms and deadlines. Scholarship recipients will be notified prior to April 1 of the award year, and funds will be available beginning with the fall semester.

All scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of the IAAI Foundation Board of Directors. Applications must be complete and submitted in accordance with the guidelines in effect at the time of application. Application materials can be found in the IAAI Journal.

IAAI Foundation ITC Training Scholarship

The IAAI Foundation may award up to five ITC Training Scholarships each year. These scholarships are intended to offset specific costs associated with attending the International Training Conference (ITC) and are not designed to cover all attendance expenses. Each successful applicant may receive up to $1,000 to assist with registration and lodging costs.

To be eligible, applicants must be current IAAI members or current IAAI Chapter members at both the time of application and the time of the training event. Applicants are required to submit the IAAI Foundation–prescribed application form along with a brief narrative explaining why they are applying for the scholarship and how the award would benefit their professional development.

Applications for an ITC Training Scholarship must be received by December 1 of the year preceding the conference (for example, applications for the 2026 ITC must be submitted by December 1, 2025). Successful applicants will be notified after December 31 of the application year. All applications expire upon award of the scholarship.

All scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of the IAAI Foundation Board. Applications must be complete and submitted in accordance with the guidelines in effect at the time of application; failure to comply with any part of the process will result in disqualification. Scholarship funds are paid directly to the IAAI upon the recipient’s attendance at the ITC. Event registration remains the responsibility of the applicant, and the IAAI will be notified of the scholarship award and amount.

SCHOLARSHIPS

IAAI Foundation Professional Development Scholarship

The IAAI Professional Development Scholarship is available to current IAAI members and IAAI Chapter members and follows the same eligibility requirements as the ITC Training Scholarships. This scholarship covers the registration fee for approved IAAI regional or local training events (for example, the IAAI Expert Witness Testimony course). The scholarship does not apply to the IAAI International Training Conference (ITC). All eligible training must be coordinated through the IAAI, and scholarship funds are paid directly to the IAAI upon completion of the course.

Applications for IAAI regional or local training events are reviewed on a quarterly basis in March, June, September, and December. Applications must be received prior to the first day of the applicable review month. Scholarship recipients will be notified by April 15, July 15, October 15, and January 15, respectively.

All applications for an IAAI training event scholarship expire at the end of the month in which that scholarship cycle is awarded. Applicants who are not selected must submit a new application to be considered for future scholarship opportunities. Applicants are required to submit the IAAI Foundation–prescribed application form along with a brief narrative explaining why they are applying for the scholarship and how the award would support their professional development.

The amount of funding available for Professional Development Scholarships is determined annually by the IAAI Foundation Board of Directors. All scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of the IAAI Foundation Board. Applications must be complete and submitted in accordance with the guidelines in effect at the time of application; failure to comply with any part of the process will result in disqualification. Scholarship funds are paid directly to the IAAI upon the recipient’s attendance at the training event. Event registration remains the responsibility of the applicant, and the IAAI will be notified of the scholarship award and amount.

The John H. Primrose IAAI Scholarship Program

  • The IAAI Foundation, in conjunction with the Primrose Family, will award a single $1000 training scholarship to the annual IAAI ITC. All applicants must be a current IAAI member or current IAAI Chapter member both at the time of application and at the time of the training event. Applicants must submit an application form prescribed by the IAAI Foundation, along with a short narrative on why they are applying for the scholarship and how the scholarship would benefit them.
